Foundation

Objectives
The Foundation has identified many objectives and set priorities for short- and long-term outcomes. The Foundation is currently focusing on the following objectives. As the Foundation evolves, the objectives may change depending on the emerging needs of the mortgage industry and related community outreach programs.

Education
As a State Affiliate of the National Association of Mortgage Brokers (NAMB), CAMB has access to NAMB's education curriculum. In 2004, CAMB embarked on its education program by introducing four courses. Each year, CAMB has expanded its education course offerings. We have 13 course offerings statewide. Seven of the 13 courses are approved for continuing education credits with the California Department of Real Estate (DRE). It is our goal that the remaining courses will be approved for DRE continuing education credits by March 1, 2007. For a list of courses, go to Course Offerings under Education or click here.

We have trained CAMB members to become instructors to deliver these courses statewide:

  • Sales & Marketing Conference – February or March every year
  • Annual Convention & Grand Exposition – August every year
  • Chapter Events – every month view our Interactive Calendar

As a long-term objective, the Foundation has a goal of providing continuing education courses to CAMB members at no cost.

Certification
The National Association of Mortgage Brokers (NAMB) administers two certification designations--the Certified Residential Mortgage Specialist (CRMS) and the Certified Mortgage Consultant (CMC). CAMB actively promotes NAMB's certification program through a certification preparedness course developed by CAMB member Guy Schwartz CMC. This course reviews the certification eligibility requirements and how to prepare for the certification exam. Click here to visit NAMB's Web site and download the certification handbook . Set yourself apart from your peers and take the next step to increasing your professional integrity by seeking industry certification.

Community Outreach/Consumer Advocacy
Integral to CAMB's commitment to consumer advocacy, the Foundation is committed to developing community outreach programs that will:

  • educate consumers in advance of homeownership (e.g., financial literacy/managing credit, understanding the loan application process, choosing a mortgage professional, etc.)
  • offer a variety of mortgage review sessions for current homeowners who may have a lack of understanding of their current loan program or desire further knowledge about mortgage loan products available to them.
